Incident details:

On 3-14-2023 at approximately 1157 hours I was contacted by school safety Officer James Peoples notified me of an incident if the girl’s gymnasium and requested my assistance. Upon my arrival I met with vice principal Ed Larkin who handed me a 9mm bullet. Larking told me some students were playing basketball in the gym. Other students were sitting in the stands, and an unknown student from the stands threw the bullet at a student playing basketball. The PE teacher noticed this and called for additional staff. There were approximately 34 students in the gym. I call for Officer Gilbert to assist me. Officer Gilbert and I conducted pat downs on every male student. Ed Larkin and safety Officer Peoples searched every student back pack. Principal Antonia Ramirez searched all of the female students and searched their back packs. We all met negative results. Officers and school administrators and staff members conducted a search of the gym and locker room for any weapons, firearms and contraband and met negative results. A closer inspection of the 9mm hollow point round revealed an indention in the primer of the cartridge case, caused when it is struck by the firing pin. I also discovered that the round was magnetic and the bullet itself had a cant or tilt. This led me to believe the casing had been previously fired. Someone placed a small magnet inside the casing, then seated a new bullet into the casing. The bullet was not seated correctly and displayed a tilt. I collected the round and booked it into CPD evidence locker #3 and attached a photograph in the property page. NFI

Hacienda la Puente Unified School District, Los Angeles County

626.10(a)(1) PC / Misdemeanor / Possession of a knife Reported to Hacienda La Puente Unified Police Department

1/30/23

Incident details:

On Janua,y 30, 2023 at about 1130 hours, I responded to Sierra Vista MS in regards to a student who was found in possession of a knife. I made contact with VJ who is the Principal at the location and she told me she received information from a student who wishes to remain anonymous for safety reasons that S was in possession of a knife. W said based on the information she received she contacted SJ who was in class and escorted him to her office and once arriving she asked him if he was in possession of a knife and SJ,■ 111111 became argumentative and defensive. W/IIIIIIBsaid after asking SJ several times that he needed to empty his pants pocket, he removed EV-1 a locking knife from his pants pocket. . w told her the reason he carries the knife was for protection. I took possession of the knife and the blade measured approximately 3" inches in length. The item was booked into evidence in the HLP SPD evidence locker. I made contact with S and I read him his rights per Miranda and he told me he understood his rights and agreed to talk with me. Prior to reading SJ rights, I read him my department issued Glady's Questionnaire and based on his response I formed the opinion that he knew the difference between right from wrong. I asked SJ why he was carrying a knife and he replied, "You know to protect myself. There's a lot of things happening in the neighborhood and I need to protect myself." S refused to tell me if he had any issues with anyone within the school or the city. SJ refused to continue to cooperate and to provide further details as to why he was in possession of EV-1. This concluded my interview with SJ SJ was cited into the Pomona Juvenile Court with a court date of March 30, 2023 at 0830 hours for the indicated charge of 626.10(a)(1) PC. While released to who is his mother she told me that she gave the knife to her son in order for he can protect himself.

Incident details:

The above named school contacted school police to advise of two employees. The above named safety assistant will follow up with incident report. - No report needed. Upon further investigation by the safety assistant, it was discovered that the registered nurse found the kitchen knife and stated she was the one who secured it in paper and placed it in the school nurses desk drawer. - The RN said on Wednesday 5/10/23 before she left the campus (around 4p or a little after), she saw the knife on the sink which appeared to be there because someone washed it after lunch and forgot to remove it. She further said because children are in and out of the health office, she wrapped the blade in a paper towel and placed it in the nurses drawer. The RN further said she also put a note on the school nurses computer screen to inform her that the knife was there and to consult the office manager regarding who it might belong to. the RN said it now appears that the school nurse did not read the note nor ask anyone and further said she should have contacted her to discuss the matter. No further.
