Calling the Cops

On May 22, 2023, at approximately 1034 hours, I (Officer Brown 611) was dispatched to Bell Gardens Intermediate School (BGI) in reference to a battery investigation. Upon arrival, I spoke to Jose Cuevas who is the principal at BGI. Jose advised there was a fight that occurred on 5/19/23 during school hours. Jose told me the school had already handled the incident administratively, however, one of the students and her mom wanted to speak to me. I spoke to [redacted] who is the mother of IP1 [redacted]. [redacted] told me she was aware of the fight that occurred on 5/19/23 and was concerned because IP1 was struck by multiple students. I asked IP1 what happened and the following is a summary of the events: On May 19, 2023, at approximately 1200 hours, IP1 was in the bathroom at BGI during lunch break. At this time, she saw another student, IP2 [redacted] inside the bathroom as well. IP1 said she does not get along with IP2 due to jealousy over a boyfriend. IP1 and IP2 then engaged in a physical fight where both students struck each other repeatedly. During the fight, there were multiple girls inside the restroom watching and recording with their cell phones. IP1 said she was struck by multiple girls while she was fighting IP2. IP1 believed she was set up for the fight because the girls in the bathroom were already waiting for her. [redacted] showed me a cell phone recording of the incident which was on social media. I reviewed the video which corroborated IP1 statements. IP1 and [redacted] were upset because they felt the other students striking her while she was in a mutual fight with IP2 was "an assault". I advised IP1 on the safety concerns regarding the mutual fight between her and IP2. IP1 and [redacted] were NRD regarding the fight and just wanted the incident documented. This report is being generated for documentation purposes and no follow-up is needed. Jose Cuevas was advised and reaffirmed the school has already handled this incident.
